It is thought that the Dark Elves once came from Alfheimr, like their cousins the Ljósálfar, but as the Light Elves do not like to talk about them, that is uncertain. These days, Dark Elves inhabit Midgard, underground, and have been there since before Ragnarök.
Not much is known about them. During Ragnarök, they were on the side of the Jotunn and Loki. Not much has been seen of them since.
Dark Elves are shorter than the average human and much slimmer. Their skin is so black that it seems to bleed light from the area around them, making it hard to see their facial features. Their eyes are also black, and it's thought that they can see even in perfect darkness.
The Dökkálfar do not have Yggdrasil's blessing, but they do have an innate talent for magic and tend to use it quite a bit in combat.
